The Chief Minister said that patrolling by trained teams should be increased in such districts. Wherever necessary, deploy additional manpower and also ensure availability of necessary equipment.

On Monday evening, the Chief Minister reviewed the situation arising out of the recent leopard and wolf attacks by holding a meeting with the District Magistrates, Police Captains and Forest Officers of Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Pilibhit, Shravasti, Moradabad, Hapur, Sitapur, Gonda, Meerut, Bijnor and Bareilly through video conferencing. Forest Minister, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, Additional Chief Secretary Home, Additional Chief Secretary Forest, all ADG Zones, Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates also participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister said that in recent times, incidents of attacks by man-eating wolves or leopards have been seen in some areas of the state. This has also led to loss of life. This situation should be controlled as soon as possible. He said that efforts should be made to control and catch wild animals at all costs. Technical support should also be taken for this. He directed that a separate action plan for relief and rescue should be made in view of the different situation of each district.

The Chief Minister inquired about the situation from the Forest Minister who had returned from Bijnor and Moradabad tour and directed him to visit Pilibhit and Lakhimpur Kheri on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister said that in order to protect oneself from wild animal attacks, the administration, police, forest department, local panchayat and revenue department should create widespread public awareness in the area. People should be told about safety measures.

The Chief Minister directed that additional personnel of the Forest Department should be deployed in sensitive areas and posted in Bahraich, Sitapur, Lakhimpur, Pilibhit, Bijnor and other districts. He stressed on increasing joint patrolling. The Chief Minister said that senior officers should camp in the districts. In rural areas where there is a problem of electricity, arrangements for Petromax should also be made.

Describing public awareness as important, the Chief Minister also stressed the need for media’s cooperation in this. He said that whenever such an incident occurs, the media should be given factual information by the officials. Public representatives should also be given correct and timely information about the facts so that rumours do not spread anywhere.
