According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four people may have hearing loss by the year 2050. The WHO study gives several reasons for this, one of the main reasons being the increasing use of earbuds and earphones.
According to the study, about 65% of people keep the volume more than 85 DB (decibel) while listening to music, podcasts or anything else through earbuds, earphones or headphones, which is extremely harmful for the internal part of the ear.
Nowadays, apart from listening to music, earbuds or earphones are also used to watch reels and videos on social media platforms, in which sometimes the volume output is more than normal. Using them for a long time damages the ears.
More than 5% of the world’s population has hearing loss. Most of these people live in low and middle-income countries.
Therefore, today in the important news, we will talk about what things to keep in mind while using earbuds or earphones? Also, we will know that-
- What volume should the gadgets be set at while listening to music?
- For how long should one not use earphones or earbuds?
Question: Does wearing earphones or earbuds for a long time cause any damage to the ears?
Answer- Dr. Geeta Srivastava says that the sound waves produced by earphones or earbuds reach our ears, which causes the eardrum to vibrate. This vibration reaches the cochlea of the ear.
The cochlea is a hollow spiral-shaped bone located in the inner part of the human ear. It plays an important role in the hearing process.
Apart from this, the loud sound of earphones also damages the hearing cells. However, how much damage will be caused to the hearing cells depends on-
- How loud is the sound?
- For how long has the loud noise been heard?
- What is the exposure time to loud noise over a long period of time?
Continuous and prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause hearing loss and even ear infections or deafness, which cannot be reversed.
