Senior doctors of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on Monday alleged tampering of evidence in the case where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered last month. Addressing the media, the doctors also condemned the heinous crime. “This crime is the result of collusion between the West Bengal government and health department officials…evidence has been tampered with,” a doctor said, according to PTI.
The West Bengal government has called the protesting doctors for talks to end the ongoing impasse – two days after the talks between the two failed due to disagreement over live streaming of the meeting. In an email, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant asked the doctors to reach the CM’s official residence in Kalighat at 5 pm. However, the protesting doctors reiterated their demand to live stream their meeting with the chief minister during his address.
“We want that there should definitely be a meeting (between doctors and the chief minister)… The meeting should be held in a transparent atmosphere. The junior doctors should be taken into confidence so that they can properly state their demands, and the government’s response should be recorded in videography or live streaming. Why is the government afraid of confronting the junior doctors on live streaming?
“ said one of the doctors. The doctors have been camping outside Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the state health department, since Tuesday and have several demands, including better security in government hospitals and removal of top officials involved in the rape and murder case. “Our main demand is timely justice in the case. We want action not only against the rapist and murderer but also against those who
We want action against those who tried to tamper with evidence and mislead the investigation process and also against the entire syndicate of some doctors.” On August 9, the body of a female trainee doctor was found half-naked in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College. A day after the incident, Kolkata police arrested prime accused Sanjoy Roy as CCTV footage showed him entering the building around the approximate time of the crime
And her Bluetooth headphones were found near the crime scene. According to the post-mortem report and preliminary investigation, the victim was seriously injured and sexually assaulted. Earlier, the CBI had conducted a polygraph test on Roy, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and four doctors. The investigating agency had sought a narco-analysis test of Roy, but a Kolkata court refused to allow it after the accused refused.
