Former Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has revealed that he did not want to make any changes in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024 campaigns, as the Indian team did nothing wrong in the ODI World Cup last year. Therefore, the head coach wanted to maintain the same atmosphere of the team going forward as well.
The Indian team, under the leadership of Rahul Dravid, won the T-20 World Cup title in June this year. While in the ODI World Cup held in India last year, the Indian team remained undefeated and reached the final. However, India had to face defeat at the hands of Australia in the title match played at the Ahmedabad ground.
Could not have done anything more than this
Rahul Dravid said at the CEAT Cricket Rating Awards in Mumbai, ‘To be honest, I did not want to do anything different. I think we performed brilliantly in the ODI World Cup. The whole team, including captain Rohit Sharma, played brilliantly. We could not have done anything more for our preparation, planning and winning 10 matches in a row.’
Key points of Rahul Dravid
- I didn’t want to change anything. If you had asked me and we had discussed it with our support staff, we would have met the coaches and asked what do you think we should do differently?
- The team believed that we should do what we did. We need to create the same energy, the same atmosphere, the same team environment that we had and then just hope that we get lucky on the day.
- I think we played brilliantly. We lost the final and Australia played better cricket than us on the day. They were a better team and congratulations to them for that. That can happen in sports.
Captain Rohit also praised the coach
Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma gave the credit for the successful campaign of T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean to former head coach Rahul Dravid, selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah. He said that everyone gave him complete freedom without worrying about the result. Because of which we were successful in winning the T20 World Cup.
