India on Thursday conducted a night test of the nuclear-capable ballistic missile Prithvi-2 from a defense facility off the Odisha coast. This missile developed by DRDO is capable of hitting with precision up to a distance of 350 kilometers. Prithvi-2 missile proved its utility once again by hitting the target with a high level of accuracy in the successful test.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the night test launch of Prithvi-2 missile was carried out from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha at around 07.46 pm. The nuclear-powered short-range ballistic missile proved its utility once again by hitting the target with a high level of accuracy in the successful test. During the test, the missile met all the set operational and technical parameters. The missile was tested as part of a routine training program.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has indigenously developed the Prithvi-2 ballistic missile. The Prithvi-2 missile system is considered highly efficient and is capable of hitting the target with a very high level of accuracy. In the night launch, the missile met all operational and technical parameters. Officials said that this state-of-the-art missile uses advanced inertial guidance system to hit its target.

According to DRDO, this missile with a range of 350 km was fired from a mobile launcher. The range of Prithvi-2 missile is 350 km. It is capable of carrying weapons weighing 500 to 1,000 kg. This surface-to-surface missile with a range of 350 km has two engines with liquid and solid fuel. It is operated with both liquid and solid fuel. The missile’s trajectory was monitored by tracking systems and telemetric centers.

A team of senior officials and scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation and ITR were present on the occasion of the test. In the test conducted on January 10 last year, the missile had met all the prescribed operational and technical parameters. Earlier, in the test conducted on June 15, 2022, the Prithvi-2 missile system had proved its utility by hitting the target with accuracy.
