Resident doctors have again started a strike in protest against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. This information was given by the Federation of Resident Doctors Association India (FORDA). They said that the decision to strike has been taken after the vandalism in the medical college. The central and state governments have failed to protect the health workers.

FORDA called off the strike after meeting Union Health Minister JP Nadda on August 13. Nadda had then assured them of getting justice.

In fact, on the late night of 14 August, a crowd of 1000 people entered the emergency ward of the medical college. The crowd threw away the machines kept there. They vandalized the furniture. They also damaged CCTV cameras. The crowd vandalized police vehicles and threw stones at the police. During this, 15 policemen were injured. 9 miscreants have been arrested in the case.

Police said, there is no damage to the crime scene in the seminar room. Action will be taken against those who are spreading fake news. BJP and TMC are accusing of sending rioters among the protesters.

3 statements on the riot…

  • This happened due to a false media campaign – Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal: Whatever has happened here is due to a false media campaign. This malicious campaign was being run against the Kolkata Police. What did the Kolkata Police not do? Rumours are being spread against us. We have not done anything wrong yet people have stopped trusting the Kolkata Police due to the malicious campaign of the media. We never said that there is only one accused.
  • Hooliganism crossed all limits – TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee: Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee posted on Twitter that hooliganism and vandalism at RG Kar tonight crossed all limits. I have spoken to the Kolkata Police Commissioner and have asked him to identify everyone responsible for this violence and bring them to justice in the next 24 hours, regardless of their political affiliation. The demands of the protesting doctors are right. Can’t they expect even this much from the government? Their safety should be given priority.
  • Mamata Banerjee sent her goons- BJP Suvendu Adhikari: Mamata Banerjee sent her goons to the non-political protest rally going on at RG Kar Medical College. Mamata thinks she is the most cunning person in the world and people will not be able to understand her plan. She sent goons who looked like protesters and joined the crowd and created a ruckus in the college.
