The spell of rain continues across the country. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert in 21 states on Thursday (August 15).

Cloudburst occurred in 3 districts Kulgam, Bandipora and Shopian in Kashmir within 6 hours. The first incident took place in Damhal Kulgam in which one person died and many were injured.

The second incident of cloudburst occurred in Dardpora of Bandipora where roads and foot bridges were damaged. The third incident occurred in Sedo of Shopian where water entered many houses.

3 hockey players died and 5 were injured due to lightning in Simdega, Jharkhand. The incident took place in Kolibida area. These players were preparing to play a match.

73% more rain in MP this season, 7 rivers in Bihar in spate

Madhya Pradesh: Due to cyclonic circulation and monsoon trough activity, there will be heavy and light rain in Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours. There is an alert of heavy rain in 7 districts including Guna and Sagar. The state has received 73% more rain so far in the season. Till now, there should have been 23.5 inches of rain, but 27.2 inches of water has already fallen.

Uttar Pradesh: Ganga and Yamuna are in spate. Ganga has crossed the danger mark in Kanpur-Unnao. 50 ghats of Varanasi are currently submerged in Ganga, where NDRF is deployed.

Bihar: Moderate rain may occur in many parts of the state for the next 2 days. Meanwhile, three people died due to lightning during heavy rains in Banka on Tuesday night. 7 rivers of North Bihar, Ganga, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, Budhi Gandak, Ghaghra and Parman are above danger level. 20 blocks of Patna district are in the grip of flood due to the rise in the water level of Ganga river.
