At the age of 21 years and 24 days, Aman Sehrawat has become India’s youngest Olympic medalist. On Friday, Aman won India’s first wrestling medal in the Paris Olympics. With this, Aman carried forward the legacy of Indian wrestlers, the foundation of which was laid by KD Jadhav by winning bronze in 1952. Indian wrestlers have won medals in the 5th consecutive Olympic Games.
Aman achieved this victory with strong attack and stamina. After losing the first point, Aman adopted an aggressive stance and tired the opposition. Then in the second round he won the bronze in a one-sided manner by scoring 7 points.
Aman defeated Darian Toi Cruz of Puerto Rico 13-5 in the free-style 57kg category. It was not easy. Just before this match, his weight had increased to more than 61 kg, but Aman and his coach reduced his weight by 4.6 kg in just 10 hours.
Aman lost 4.6 kg weight in 10 hours
After the semi-finals, Aman’s weight had become 61.5 kg, which was 4.5 kg more than his weight category of 57 kg. Here, the biggest challenge before senior Indian coaches Jagmandar Singh and Virendra Dahiya was how to lose weight before morning.
Dahiya explains that it was like a mission, because after what happened with Vinesh, we could not afford another shock. Vinesh became ineligible for the finals due to being 100 grams overweight and is now fighting the case in the court. How coach Virendra Dahiya’s mission was accomplished. While reducing Aman’s weight, he was given lukewarm water with lemon and honey and some coffee to drink in between the sessions. Then Aman could not sleep. Coach Virendra Dahiya watched wrestling videos all night. Kept checking Aman’s weight every hour.

Aman won this match with his strong attack, stamina and strategy. After losing the first point, Aman adopted an aggressive stance. He launched a leg attack on the opponent and took them to their knees and scored points. In the first round, Aman did not take big risks and preserved his stamina. Here Aman was tiring the opposition.
When the opponent got tired, he started attacking again and took 7 points from the second round. In this also he scored points through leg attack. Not only this, when the opponent attacked Aman’s leg, he saved himself well. According to me, this match was one-sided. Aman remained ahead in this entire competition.
