On the third day of the Manchester Test, England was all out after scoring 358 runs in the first innings. Wicketkeeper Jamie Smith scored the first century of his career. Sri Lanka started its second innings. By the end of the third day’s play, the team had scored 204 runs after losing 6 wickets.
Sri Lanka had scored 236 runs in the first innings. Therefore, the team is currently ahead by 82 runs. In the second innings, Angelo Mathews and Kamindu Mendis scored fifties from the team. Asitha Fernando took 4 wickets from Sri Lanka in the first innings.
Jamie Smith gave England a strong lead
England continued their innings on the third day with a score of 259/6. Jamie Smith started playing with a score of 72 runs, in front of him Gus Atkinson was out after scoring 20 runs, but the team’s score crossed 300. Smith scored a century, but he also returned to the pavilion after scoring 111 runs.
In the end, Matthew Potts scored 17, Mark Wood scored 22 and Shoaib Bashir scored 3 runs to take the team’s score to 358 runs. From Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando took 4 wickets and Prabath Jayasuriya took 3 wickets. Vishwa Fernando took 2 wickets and Milan Ratnayake took one wicket.
Sri Lanka’s start was poor
Sri Lanka fell behind by 122 runs in the second innings. The team lost 2 wickets at the score of just one run in the second innings. Nishan Madushka and Kusal Mendis could not even open their account. Chris Woakes sent Madushka and Gus Atkinson sent Mendis to the pavilion.
Sri Lanka recovered in the second session
By the end of the first session, the team lost 2 wickets for 10 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne was out after scoring 27 runs and captain Dhananjay de Silva was out after scoring just 11 runs. Meanwhile, Angelo Mathews handled the innings along with Kamindu Mendis.
