The semi-nude body of a trainee doctor was found late on the night of 8th August in RG Kar Medical College Hospital, Kolkata. According to the police, she was murdered after rape. There was bleeding from private parts, eyes and mouth. His neck bone was also found broken.

Today 3 lakh resident doctors across the country are on strike regarding the incident. OPD services have been affected in all government hospitals across the country including AIIMS Delhi. Emergency services have been kept operational.

Dr. Sarvesh Pandey, General Secretary of All India Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) said – We have demanded from the Health Secretary to conduct a CBI inquiry into the incident and enact a Central Protection Act for the safety of doctors. The strike will continue until written assurance is received.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee reached the trainee doctor’s house on Monday morning. Here he said- If the police is not able to solve the case by August 18, then the investigation will be handed over to CBI. However, the success rate of CBI is very low. The case should also be tried in the fast track court.
