In a major setback to Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday refused to grant certification to the film from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). A division bench of Justices BP Colabawala and Firdaus Pooniwala said that they cannot issue any direction as the Madhya Pradesh High Court has already ordered the censor board

That it should consider the objections before certifying the film. The bench said, “The Madhya Pradesh High Court has given a direction to the CBFC. If we give any relief today, it will be a direct violation of that order. If we pass any order today, we will ask the CBFC to violate another order of the High Court. We cannot do this. Judicial decorum demands this from us.”

The Bombay High Court asked the censor board to consider the objections raised against the film and then certify it by September 18.

It added, “We know there is something else going on behind the scenes. We do not want to comment on it. The CBFC will consider the objections and take a decision by September 18.
