Heavy and moderate rains are continuing in the country. Even after half of the monsoon season has passed, there is heat and humidity in many areas. The Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert of heavy rains in 18 states on Wednesday (21 August).
7 people died and 2 are missing due to heavy rains in the northeastern state of Tripura. 5600 families are living in relief camps. Relief and rescue efforts are underway.
Here, heavy rains have started again in Rajasthan which will continue for three days. In Madhya Pradesh too, the water level of Kalisindh, Chambal and other rivers is rising due to heavy rains. Due to this, Rajasthan has started releasing water from the dams built on these rivers.
At the same time, a flood alert has been issued in 8 districts of Himachal Pradesh. A 510 MW power station at NHPC’s Teesta Stage 5 dam was destroyed after being hit by a massive landslide in Balutar, Sikkim. It was evacuated a few days ago due to continuous landslides in the area. The station was badly damaged in the flood caused by a glacial lake burst in October 2023, after which work was stopped in it.
10% less rain in UP so far
Uttar Pradesh: Till August 19, 53 districts in the state have recorded less than normal rainfall. Whereas, 22 districts have received normal and above normal rainfall. The weather department has issued a forecast till August 23. There is a possibility of heavy rain in most of the districts of the state. Till now, the state has received 10% less rain than normal.
Delhi: After a week, there was heavy rain here on Tuesday. 72.4 mm of rain was recorded in Delhi Ridge area. Due to the rain, many areas were flooded with water.
Rain in southern states: Heavy rains occurred in Hyderabad, Malkajgiri, Khammam, Nagarkurnool, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Rangareddy and Siddipet in Telangana. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of heavy rain in many districts on August 21.
At the same time, the Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert (6 to 20 cm rain) in 6 districts of Kerala today.
Heavy rain alert in 13 states on August 22
- According to the Meteorological Department, there is an alert of heavy to very heavy rain (12 cm) in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
- Heavy rain (7 cm) is warned over Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Konkan-Goa and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
