Our criminal laws have been freed from colonial thinking. The idea of the judicial code is not just to punish citizens but also to protect them. Over 800 members of the district judiciary from across the country, including Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, Attorney General of India and judges of the apex court, are expected to attend the event, which begins today. In his address, the CJI said the conference follows the All India District Judges Conference held in Kutch in March 2024. He said the aim of such conferences is to address important issues relating to the Indian judiciary and legal system, deliberate on the roles of the Supreme Court within the framework of law and society.
The Prime Minister also celebrated 75 years of the establishment of the Supreme Court with a commemorative postage stamp and coin at a function held on Saturday morning. Apart from Prime Minister Modi and Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, SCBA President Kapil Sibal and BCI President Manan Kumar Mishra were also present during the inaugural address.
