The Delhi High Court has refused to give any relief to BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accused in the case of sexual exploitation of female wrestlers. Singh has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the FIR registered against him and the framing of charges by the trial court. Now the next hearing will be on September 26.
Justice Neena Bansal Krishna’s bench said that you want to end the entire case after the trial has started. When the trial has already started, you are challenging the order of framing of charges. You indirectly want to end the entire case. Advocate Rajiv Mohan, appearing on behalf of Singh, said that this entire matter is about a hidden agenda. The complainants do not want the petitioner to remain on the post of President of the Indian Wrestling Association. Delhi Police opposed their argument and said that the petition is not worth hearing. After that the High Court directed Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s lawyer to file a written note within two weeks.
The trial in this case has started in Rouse Avenue Court from 26th July. On 21st May, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and another co-accused Vinod Tomar had told the court that they will face the trial. Both of them refused to accept the charges framed by the court in the case and said that if they have not committed any mistake, then there is no question of accepting it.
It is noteworthy that on May 10, the Rouse Avenue Court had ordered framing of charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on the allegations leveled by five out of six female wrestlers. The court had acquitted Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the case of allegations made by a female wrestler.
The court had ordered framing of charges against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under sections 354, 354A and 506 of the Indian Penal Code in the case of sexual exploitation of five women wrestlers. It also ordered framing of charges against co-accused and former secretary of the Wrestling Federation of India Vinod Tomar under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
