BJP held a meeting in Jammu on Sunday (August 18) regarding the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Union Minister and Jammu and Kashmir BJP assembly election in-charge Kishan Reddy, National General Secretary Tarun Chugh and Union Minister Jitendra Singh also attended the meeting.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina said that the party will contest the elections alone in Jammu. It can support independent candidates in Kashmir. It will not form an alliance with any party. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said at the meeting – BJP is ready for the elections 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Our meetings and discussions regarding the elections will continue regularly.

According to Dainik Bhaskar sources, BJP will release the first list of candidates on August 21. The party may start election campaign from next week. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Health Minister JP Nadda, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will hold election rallies.

J&K Apni Party leader Zulfkar Ali joins BJP

Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Choudhary Zulfkar Ali has joined the BJP. Earlier on Saturday (August 17), Choudhary Zulfkar Ali met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

Zulfkar, a lawyer by profession, had contested and won the 2008 and 2014 assembly elections from the Darhal assembly seat in Rajouri district on a PDP ticket.

From 2015 to 2018, he was also a cabinet minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government led by Mehbooba Mufti. Ravinder Raina said that Zulfkar is a big leader of Jammu and Kashmir. We welcome him in the BJP. His joining will strengthen the BJP.

Voting will be held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir

The Election Commission announced the dates for the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections on August 16. Voting will be held in three phases in the state. There are a total of 90 assembly seats here. The majority figure is 46.

According to the Election Commission, the gazette notification for the first phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir will start from August 20. The last date for nomination for the first phase will be August 27.

Jammu and Kashmir: The term of the new government will be 5 years instead of 6 years

The Supreme Court had ordered elections in Jammu and Kashmir by 30 September 2024. This will be the first assembly election after the removal of Article 370 from the state. The central government removed Article 370 on 5 August 2019. Since then, LG Manoj Sinha is the administrator here. After the elections, the term of the new government will be 5 years instead of 6 years.
