This case was filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in the year 2022. In this, Baba Ramdev’s company Patanjali was accused of defaming the Kovid vaccine drive and the modern medical system. Advocate Gautam Talukdar on behalf of Patanjali said that the court has closed the case on the basis of the promises given by Ramdev, Balkrishna and Patanjali Ayurveda Limited. Earlier on May 14, the Supreme Court had reserved its order on the contempt notice.
The Supreme Court had also taken a tough stand on the IMA President
During the last hearing, the apex court had asked IMA President RV Ashokan whether his unconditional apology to the Supreme Court on his statements in the interview given to PTI was published in all the newspapers in which his interview was published? Actually, in an interview given to PTI, Ashokan had answered questions about the misleading advertisement case of Patanjali Ayurveda Limited. In this, he had said that it is unfortunate that the Supreme Court criticized the association and also private doctors. On this, the court had said that the apology should be published in newspapers by Ashokan personally, and not from the funds of IMA.
What is the whole matter of Contempt Case Against Baba Ramdev?
Patanjali was accused that Patanjali Ayurveda, which sells herbal products, claims to cure many serious diseases through its products. At the same time, it targets the modern medical system through its advertisements. In this case, the IMA had filed a petition accusing Patanjali of defaming modern medicine. Contempt proceedings began in this case. Later, Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna apologized unconditionally in connection with the misleading advertisements by Patanjali Ayurveda and said that they always pledge to maintain the dignity of law and justice.
