Today is the 9th day (18th August) of the nationwide protest by doctors against the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata. The CBI, which is investigating the case, said that a psychological test of the accused Sanjay is being conducted.
A team of 5 members of psychologists and behavioural analysts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) is conducting this test. This test can reveal the mindset of the accused Sanjay regarding the heinous crime.
Kolkata Police has registered a case against former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and issued summons. Police said that Locket had revealed the identity of the trainee doctor during the protest. She has been called for questioning at 3 pm.
Apart from this, Kolkata Police has also issued summons to TMC MP Sukhendu Shekhar and called him for questioning at 4 pm. He is accused of spreading rumors and fake news regarding the case.
In fact, on 9 August, a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. Violence broke out in the same hospital late on the night of 14 August, after which the doctors intensified their protest.
Today’s updates regarding the case and strike
- Kolkata Police has issued a notice to former BJP MP Locket Chatterjee and called her for questioning at 3 pm. Police said that Locket is accused of revealing the identity of the trainee doctor.
- The CBI team is doing 3D laser mapping in the emergency ward of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
- Kolkata Police has issued notice to Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Dr. Subarno Goswami of RG Kar Hospital. Police has said that both the doctors are accused of spreading rumors regarding the case.
- CBI is questioning former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandeep Ghosh for the third consecutive day today. Sandeep Ghosh has been questioned for 36 hours so far.
- Kolkata Police has arrested 2 more people in connection with the vandalism and violence that took place on August 14. A total of 32 people have been arrested so far. Police is interrogating the accused.
Centre’s order – All states will give law and order report every 2 hours.
Late night on 17th August, the Central Government issued a new order saying- Now all states will give law and order information every two hours to the Home Ministry Control Room through fax, e-mail or WhatsApp.
Section 163 imposed near medical college
Kolkata police has imposed Section 163 of the Indian Justice Code (BNS) (earlier Section 144 of CRPC) near RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from today (August 18).
In this order, it is said that there will be a ban on dharna and demonstrations for the next 7 days (till 24 August). Gathering of more than 5 people, carrying weapons or any activity that creates tension will not be allowed.
