The brother of Kannauj rape accused Nawab Singh Yadav surrendered before a court here on Tuesday amid police apprehensions that the rape victim’s aunt was being pressured to change her statement and influence the investigation.

The police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on the arrest of Neelu Yadav and teams were trying to nab him. He surrendered before Judge Alka Yadav’s POCSO court in the morning and was sent to jail. The police will soon file a chargesheet against him in the case and the matter will be taken to a fast track court.

Former Samajwadi Party block pramukh Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested on August 12 in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl on the pretext of giving her a job. Superintendent of police Amit Kumar said Nilu Yadav was wanted in a case registered against him for allegedly pressuring the rape victim’s aunt to change her statement and influence the investigation.

A report has confirmed that Nawab Singh Yadav’s DNA matches the sample collected in the rape case. The case has sparked a political controversy, with the ruling BJP alleging that Nawab Singh Yadav was associated with the Samajwadi Party, however, the party has distanced itself from him.
